Dear Neptuns

I got a weird "bug" on my Lenovo X240. On the Login screen keystrokes won't register when trying to enter my password or pin, besides the "tab" or "-" key (and capslock). The mouse moves, but clicking on the Restart Icon won't bring up the respective menu, ease of access can be turned on and off but right click won't work. After the login screen paused, aka screen changes so that only date and time are showing up, I (sometimes) can type numbers again for my pin and voila I am on the desktop. I tried the troubleshooting wizard from Microsoft that found and (re)installed "something" (but I don't know what), and didn't make a difference. Drivers seem to be up to date according to Win 10. Ease of access filters are turned off in the menu.

My question to you now: Does that sound like a hardware or software problem to you?
Any tips how to resolve this?

Dear Tim,

This is hard to tell from afar. If you reset Windows 10 (https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/reset-windows-10-pc), install all the Windows and Lenovo updates (https://support.lenovo.com/ch/en/solutions/ht003029) and the problem persists, then it probably is a hardware problem.

Maybe try recovering a system restore point from before the problem occured: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows ... m-restore/

Or try checking/repairing the system files (SFC scan / DISM Repair): https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/win ... 5b60477a93

If you visit our helppoint we can try to help.

Best regards,

Quick update: Problem solved.

It was quite a hustle, but in the end the (dared) reset Simon suggested did work. Thanks for the hint!
I have no clue what caused this, but I guess a "regular" reset ain't the worst thing that can happen to your system. Keeping all my files was an option and reinstalling all apps and plug-ins, was do-able, although a pain on a regular working day.

Cheers for the support!
