Hello,

I have purchased the Thinkpad T470s at the last fall wave. Sadly, I am having issues under Ubuntu with screen flickering/tearing. I first installed version 17.04 and updated to 17.10. I also tried installing the most recent LTS version (16.04) and installing the intel graphics update tool (https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/ ... -os-v2.0.2). However, none of this worked.

After doing some web searches, it seems that Ubuntu is having some troubles with high resolution screens.

Has anyone experienced the same problems with a computer in the Thinkpad series? Is it possible that my screen is broken? Here is a video of my screen (only filming the screen with an other device allows me to capture the problematic behavior):

Also note that there is a correlation between clicking and the screen tearing and flickering changing slightly.

Thanks,
Simon

Hi Simon,

I haven't heard of such issues, but I suggest that you contact "the Alternative" for Help. They have experience with running Linux on Neptun laptops: https://www.thealternative.ch/

Best regards,
Simon

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your tip, I will contact the club at the next Stammtisch.

I am a bit worried that it might be a hardware issue (I have not much experience with hardware defects). Do you think the screen is broken or the problem is coming from the OS?

Thanks,
Simon

Hi, I couldn't look a t the video the first time around. I haven't seen such an issue before. Maybe you open a warranty case with ESAG (Lenovo Repair Center) with the video attached and we will see how they see the issue.

Here you can find the information concerning Lenovo Service and Support on our website: http://www.projektneptun.ch/en/services ... o-support/

Best regards,
Simon

ps.. here you can find Lenovo toolf for hardware testing (only the EN site works), maybe you can get more clues from that: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ch/en/leno ... /downloads

Hi,

Sorry for my (very) late reply.

The Alternative strongly suggested that the problem is hardware related although all hardware tests did not report something broken. The Lenovo support changed the motherboard, now everything works again. :)

Thanks for your help on this topic!
